The RD BAD-30 is a purpose-built blast attenuation device engineered specifically for the M230 and M230LF 30x113mm chain gun systems. While it draws developmental influence from RD’s proven General Purpose Suppressor (GPS) Technology—originally fielded on platforms such as the M60 and later adapted for the M2/M3 and other medium-caliber systems—the BAD-30 represents a distinct solution designed to address the unique overpressure challenges of high-energy rotary cannon platforms.

Unlike traditional suppressors, the BAD-30 is focused on the reduction of harmful blast overpressure, sound pressure wave exposure, and downrange environmental disruption without altering the host weapon’s cycling, recoil behavior, or ballistic signature. Its advanced geometry and internal architecture direct energy forward and away from the crew, reducing the operational burden on gunners, nearby personnel, and sensitive electronic systems mounted near the weapon.

Key to its performance is a system-level design that minimizes back pressure, ensuring minimal impact on host weapon kinematic.
